How do I achieve a streak-free tan?
The most important way to achieve a streak-free tan is to EXFOLIATE before applying your fake tan! Exfoliating gets rid of any unwanted body oils and most importantly dead skins cells…..
Concentrate mostly around your feet and ankles and especially the knees and elbows as this is where dry skin mostly appears. Another important tip is to make sure you shave any unwanted hairs preferably a couple of hours before tanning, as this also gets rid of dry skin and will ensure a more even tan!
Secondly you must make sure to shake the product before using it as it has been sitting untouched on a shelf. (Using it in this state means you are definitely going to be streaky!) The solution will be slightly separated to some degree so make sure you mix it up well before applying!
How do I apply fake tan?
When self tanning, it is best to apply your product in a circular motion as appose to an up and down motion. This is the best technique for an even tan whether you are applying gel, lotion or spray. Also by using plastic gloves or a fake tan mitt will also achieve a smooth even tan and protects staining your hands.
Is it better to moisturise before fake tanning?
By moisturising before applying fake tan actually reduces the absorption of the applied solution.
It is useful to use moisturiser when self tanning if you don’t want a potentially darker tan. Moisturiser reacts with the tan lighting the content and blocking the pours, therefore it will give you a lighter glow.
HOT TIP!
After showering make sure you give the bathroom a chance for any condensation to evaporate. As heat and steam make the skin perspire this will leave you with a streaky tan!
How do I stop getting orange hands!
The best way the stop with orange and stained hands is to either wash your hands every 3minutes while self tanning concentrating mostly in between the finger and knuckles, the palms and the sides of your hands. Also by using a fake tan mitt will protect your palms and fingers and also helps create an even tan.
After you have finished self tanning head to toe use a make-up/ paint brush to apply your fake tan to your hands (as white hands on a tanned body isn’t a good look!) You can also use your fake tan mitt to apply your fake tan evenly on your hands.
HOT TIP!
To stop getting orange nails and fake tan trapped between them apply Vaseline or moisturiser under your nails or use plastic gloves or mitts to cover them!
How do I make my tan last?
To make your tan last it is best to stay away from any form of water for at least 3hours and only shower/bath 8hours prior to your application. By keeping your skin moisture this will stop your skin from drying out and your tan flaking. It is best to scrub away your tan within a week of your first application and then exfoliate and start the self tanning process all over again as by re-applying fake tan over a faded tan will just make your skin patchy and streaky!
How do I remove dead and streaky tan?
The best way to remove fake tan from your legs is to use a razor blade as when shaving as the tan on your dead skin will come off! It is good to have an exfoliating sponge and exfoliating cream as this will remove any unwanted tan anywhere else on your body and will also prepare the skin for a re-application!
